Good/Bad Website Assignment

Dear followers:

This is an assignment I’m doing for one of my classes. I’ll be using my Tumblr for school purposes starting today. Beware.

Dear Heather:

Sorry in advance for any content on my blog that is NSFW.

GOOD/BAD WEBSITES

Here’s my idea of a good website (according to assignment requirements, of course): http://www.nfte.com/

I chose this site because it’s extremely easy on the eye. The use of the color blue is very inviting and friendly. I also like how the WHAT/WHY/WHO is in the top navigation bar. Those are usually the first questions asked by people who have no idea what they’re looking at and this makes it easy to find the answers to those questions. Pretty much everything is self explanatory on this site, making it very simple for users to find what they’re looking for.

Here’s my idea of a bad website: http://www.yealeaders.org/

The first thing I notice on this website is the crappy gradient background. It hurts my eyes. The mouse-overs on the top navigation seem outdated and the actual design of the whole navigation section is ugly, in my opinion. The scrolling text at the top and bottom are another outdated effect; there are so many better ways to convey important content and a scrolling banner is not one of them. The site just seems like it was designed 5 or 6 years ago and hasn’t been updated to meet the today’s standards.
